Tomorrow is not promised is one thing that I have learned and remembered from that fateful day 11 years ago. If only we could apply that line of thinking to other areas of our life. 

The truth I learned from the 9/11 tragedy is that the money, prestige,  nice cars, big homes, and all the material wants I was chasing are just not that important. I have come to understand, just like as the Apostle John came to understand, that serving God is much more important than honoring our own desires. “For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:16-17 

The World Trade Center tragedy has also helped me to understand that I have two citizenship's, one in this world and one in heaven.  The greater reality for me and my self centered will is that while I was trying to make that million and get those material things, I was neglecting God’s gifts to me in Tami and Kai. It took another “knock in the head” to finally get me to see the riches I have here are in my relationships with Jesus, Tami, and Kai. The more I build on them and grow them, the better my life had become.

Please reflect on our 911 tragedy as you see it remembered tomorrow and pray for those families who suffered losses.  My hope and prayer for you is that you can look at your life and see how your relationships with Jesus and your loved ones are doing.  God is in charge and has a plan for you. Look to Him and all will work out. My life has shown me this.

Feed My Starving Children

Feed My Starving Children, a world-class hunger fighting organization, is coming to Mountain Park Saturday, September 29! Please choose from one of our four available shifts, and help package 100,000 meals for starving children around the world! Space is limited, so register today by clicking on the link below.

This is a fun event for families, youth and d.groups. Please note that volunteers must be at least 5-years-old, and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must wear long pants, shirts with sleeves and closed-toe shoes. If you are sick or have had fever 24 hours prior to your shift, please email Kristina Feltham immediately to cancel your reservation. Thank you for your cooperation!

We also need volunteers to help with set up on Friday evening and clean up on Saturday evening.

Dear friends,
Thank you for allowing God to speak to your hearts this past week! We have a washer, dryer, and a stove for this family! Many have worked with Tim Berry and me to donate cash and gift cards to our MPCC Local Outreach fund specifying that it be used to help with clothing, groceries, and supplies for this family! We will continue to collect and deliver any donations that you feel lead to contribute. We have given this family hope and comfort during this scary time as they care for their grand children with their limited resources while they continue to work with the court and social services systems to gain full custody of these special kiddos! We know that God blesses those who bless others.  You love, prayers, and gifts are changing the lives of this family and showing them that we serve a loving and caring God! Thank you for allowing us to help this family in so many ways! Let these blessings keep rolling!

Surviving Cancer Support Group


NEW GROUP STARTING!!!! Wed. July 18

   


This support group provides encouragement and hope for those battling and surviving cancer, their families and friends. Hosted by cancer survivor Dion Arseneau, this faith-based group incorporates God, the Bible, and spiritual growth through sharing cancer survival tools and information. Support persons share stories of victories and and progress. Meets every Wednesday from 6:30-8:00PM beginning July 18, 2012.

When Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God, he upset power-hungry religious scholars by turning their value system upside down. He described the poor, the marginalized, the mourning and the persecuted as "blessed," and he taught his followers to love and serve the down and out.
Mountain Park seeks to live out these kingdom values by sharing the Gospel and serving the poor and underprivileged in Phoenix and in the most God-starved parts of the world.

Family Promise Week starts this Sunday!

The mission of the Family Promise initiative is to love and serve our neighbors by providing hot meals and a safe place to sleep, while they work hard to regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. We need volunteers (that's where you come in) to prepare and serve the meals and also to make sure the families have what they need during their stay at MPCC. 
This serving opportunity is excellent for families and small groups. It could also be a great way to meet people if you're new to Mountain Park.

She is growing up




It seems like only yesterday that Tami and I took Kai to start Kindergarten and only let her see us smiling and happy as she began her school career.  Thank goodness she did not see our  tears after we dropped her off and realized our little gift from God was growing up.  Today Kai ends 8th grade and prepares to enter high school.  I am pretty sure as we celebrate this achievement and right of passage with her today, she will see her parents now familiar tears of joy, love, and realization that their baby girl is becoming a young woman. We love you Kai and and are so proud of you and we are blessed that God chose us to raise and guide you. "Fathers, don't exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master." Ephesians 6:4  Lord, please continue to use me to lead, guide, and direct toward Your truth, grace, and love as she continues her journey, AMEN.  "And it means, of course, that we are going to talk about God." 2012 Food and Water Drive

2012 Food and Water Drive
We are collecting food for our food pantry, which gives out approximately 2-4 food boxes a week. Items we collect are tuna, mayo, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, canned vegetables, soup, pasta and spaghetti sauce.
Please drop your donations in the boxes in the church lobby Sundays and during the week.
Our goal this year is to collect 1,000 cases of water for Phoenix Rescue Mission. With tempatures already over 100° this year, water is desperately needed for the homeless in our commuity.
A case of water costs less than a trip to Starbucks. Pick up a case or two, bring them to church Sunday morning or during the week and put them in the lobby.

Family Promise - June 2012

Family Promise Week June  10 -17


For the week of June 10-17, Mountain Park is partnering with Family Promise to provide shelter to homeless families. The mission of the Family Promise initiative is to love and serve our neighbors by providing hot meals and a safe place to sleep, while they work hard to regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. Family Promise Week 


6/10 -17 sign ups now open

We are pleased to be partnering with Family Promise to help Ahwatukee and East Valley families who have had a few bad breaks with housing and jobs to get back on their feet again! These folks are in transition to new jobs and housing while they rebuild their lives. I know that this is something we would all do for one another if we were in this situation. We have been blessed these past few months watching the families who have stayed with us move on to long-term, gainful employment and permanent housing!
We will be hosting our guests the week of June 10 -17.
This is an excellent project and service activitiy for d.groups, as well as, individuals looking to get connected!
We need teams of 6-8 to serve meals and have dinner with our guest familes each evening from 6-7:30pm. We need youth groups and children to come along to have dinner and play with the children of our guests. This is the magic that makes Family Promise work! Moms and dads begin to relax when they see their kids having fun! There are also many other ways that you can serve:
  • We need a pair of adults to serve one night as overnight hosts each night from 7pm-6am.
  • We need assistance with room set up before our guests arrive on Sunday afternoon May 13 and June 10.
  • We need clean-up and set-up help to get the rooms turned back into classrooms at 7am before Sunday morning Celebration on May 20 and June 17.
  • We could use 1 person who has a few hours during the day to come in and spruce up the rooms while our guests are at school and at the Day Center rebuilding their lives.

Our goal this year is to collect 1,000 cases of water for Phoenix Rescue Mission. With tempatures already over 100° this year, water is desperately needed for the homeless in our commuity.
A case of water costs less than a trip to Starbucks. Pick up a case or two, bring them to church Sunday morning or during the week and put them in the lobby.
You can also donate through our website or dropping cash in the large water bottle in the lobby.
