Why worry?.. Schedules conflict, appointments run long, and our responsibilities never seems to end! Now maybe it’s different for you but when I find myself, as I often do, mentally leaving the present situation because my mind wants me to start focusing on where it thinks I should be according to the “plan”, I have to remind myself that this is where I need to be and now is where my focus need to be. Wringing my hands, pacing, checking my watch, calendar, or phone, won’t move the time any faster. I have learned that the root cause of all of this for me is my fear based mind’s desire to worry. The solution I have to force myself at times to grab and hold onto is that God has me right here right now for His own reasons and I need to be awake and present in this moment and not lost in thoughts and worry over my day not matching up with my calendar. Worry won’t change a thing, except to make your present situation more uncomfortable… Check your experience… “Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake.” Big Book pg 417 Lord, let us trade in out worries for your grace and guidance, AMEN. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6-7 Have a blessed day y’all! Hey friends please check out Servants Hearts! Faith or fear? ... It's the age old problem that we face every day. It comes seemingly from out of nowhere, but if not confronted immediately, our day can get hijacked with our thoughts taken hostage and our minds blinded by it. What is it? FEAR. ... OK, so maybe you are one of those invincible folks already so full of faith that fear has no way to get a grip inside of you. I wish I could say that, but I am human and without putting myself in check with faith each time a fear tries to crop up, I am a victim. Try this the next time you find yourself stepping on the gas out of fear of missing the light, or when your mind fills with words you feel you must immediately say, instead of listening to the conversation completely, before it's your turn to speak...I bet y'all didn't consider those as a fear did you? ... RELAX and let your faith guide your mind! ... Check your experience. ... "We think fear ought to be classed with stealing. It seems to cause more trouble." Big Book pg 68 Lord, quiet the fears in our minds with the Faith in our hearts, AMEN. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7 Have a blessed day y'all! ….MAKE A DIFFERENCE! We are in the hand-UP business and not the HANDOUT GAME! Whatcha wearin' on the inside? .... I used to share this thought as part of a class lesson when I was on staff at the Salvation Army ARC. ... You can wax, wash, shine, polish, and accessorize your car to its finest, but if you don't change the oil, keep the engine serviced, and keep quality fuel in the tank, you won't go anywhere and wind up with a fine looking piece of junk. .... The point is that if you don't maintain your engine (Spiritual) and inside mechanical parts (mental and emotional) that others cannot see, you will have junk, no matter how pretty or cool you look (on the outside. How are you maintaining the Spiritual and mental parts of your life?.. Check your experience... "What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition." Big Book pg 85 Lord, let us enter your Spiritual gym daily to keep our heart, mind, and soul in fit condition, AMEN. "Your adornment must not be merely external . . . but let it be the hidden person of the heart." 1 Peter 3:3-4 Have a blessed day y’all! Start your day on a positive note! Consider the source…. It’s pretty easy these days to learn just about anything on the internet. What is interesting to me is that our whole culture seems to be adapting to this form or information gathering. While this is helpful to have instant access, it can also be harmful at times if we don’t consider the source. Most information is fueled by a person or host site. Depending on what their preferences and opinions are, it seems the facts can be twisted to carry the message they want to share. Our current political climate is a great example. I will share what I have learned from personal experience and that is this simple fact...just because it’s on the internet, TV, or radio, does not mean it’s true! Jesus gave us a great example of dealing with His era of social media when He walked the earth with His statement about casting the first stone. Please do yourself a favor and consider the source of the information you are gathering before you form your opinions and, as always, … check your experience … “but we let God be the final judge.” Big Book pg 70 Lord, let us look at our actions, efforts, and behaviors and leave the judging of others up to you, AMEN. “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” John 8:7 Have a blessed day y'all!! Something to share instead of give…. It seems from the time we are able to walk, we are taught that it’s good to share with others. Somehow as the years go by and we become adults this spiritual principle gets twisted in our communications as well as our understanding to become it’s good to give. Now maybe your experience is different from mine but I feel there is a huge difference between giving and sharing. We give to get. We share to help. I give my time to my employer to get a paycheck. I give money to retailers to get their goods and services. However, I share my heart, my resources, money, and time with others in an effort to help and be of service. One of the great benefits of sharing is the unexpected blessings I get. My heart fills with humble joy each time I am given an opportunity to help and share with others. Are you giving or sharing?... Check your experience… “Helping others is the foundation stone” Big Book pg 97 Lord, let our hearts look to see how we can share to help others and not just give to get, AMEN. “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16 Have a blessed day y’all! Check out my NEW WORKBOOK! Suffering from terminal uniqueness… Have you ever noticed how different it feels when you are faced with an unusual experience or uneasy situation? Now perhaps it’s different for you, but this selfish head of mine tries to make me feel isolated and alone and justify all the wrong elements that go against my moral fibers and character. It’s like my head is trying to get me to turn my back on my faith and give in to those old ways that brought me nothing but chaos, calamity, and crisis. The blessing I have is that when I face these experiences or situations today, my heart gently reminds me almost immediately of the Holy Spirit within me and that I am not alone. I find that when I share these times with others walking the spiritual path with me that they have also experienced things of this nature and I am not terminally unique! Are you allowing your head to isolate you from your heart and others?.. Check your experience… . “But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful.” Big Book pg 17 Lord, let us look in our hearts for your Spirit and rely on our faith and fellowship with others to immunize us from terminal uniqueness, AMEN. “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 Have a blessed day y’all! Hey friends please check out Servants Hearts! Watch who and what you follow… Remember playing follow the leader as a child? While it was a fun game, it only required action to do what the leader did and not much thought was needed. Sadly we do this with some parts of our lives as adults. Some of us don’t give much thought to who we associate with, what we are doing privately, professionally, and even spiritually. Perhaps it’s different for you, but I have blindly followed only to end up in some bad situations due to my lack of participating with my mind and heart. The challenge God gives us daily is to build relationship with Him through Jesus, His Word, and fellowship with other believers. How is this working out for you?...Check your experience… “Follow the dictates of a Higher Power and you will presently live in a new and wonderful world, no matter what your present circumstances!” Big Book pg 100 Lord, let us stop the pattern of blindly following others and look to see what is good, AMEN. “My dear friend, do not follow what is bad; follow what is good. The one who does good belongs to God. But the one who does evil has never known God.” 3 John 1:11 Have a blessed day y’all! ….MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Just focus… It’s a tall order these days to keep our minds focused and clear. It seems that no matter where we go, or what we are doing there are sights, sounds, and other things trying to grab our attention. Heck, even our Smartphones can now chirp at us to let us know that we are near a good deal or a favorite place. Advertising and marketing are necessary in our capitalistic society and our shopper’s culture. Perhaps it’s different for you, but I find it hard to stay focused, especially with my mind that is attracted naturally to shiny things! What I have learned through the schools of hard knocks and experience is that I can stay focused when I am constantly checking my motives and efforts. Constant contact with the Holy Spirit from seeking God’s will throughout the day is what gets me through. How do you stay focused?.. Check your experience… “As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter.” Big Book pg 63 Lord, let us look to You to help us keep our minds and hearts clear from the distractions of this world, AMEN. "But you should keep a clear mind in every situation.” 2 Timothy 4:5 Have a blessed day y’all! Hey friends please check out Servants Hearts! Our own autopilot…. As we start each day, most of us have certain things in place to get us up and running as well as habits to keep us on schedule. Alarm clocks, calendars, and various routines keep us moving and in sync with our day. Auto pilot is a great tool for morning routines and repetitive things in our lives. We have the same opportunity with our spiritual lives as well. When we make the daily decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, our day goes better and we are not as challenged by worldly clamors… Check your experience… “In thinking about our day we may face indecision. We may not be able to determine which course to take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision.” Big Book pg 86 Lord, please guide our lives to allow us the freedom the exists in seeking and doing Your will, AMEN. “let the Holy Spirit guide your lives” Galatians 5:16 Have a blessed day y'all! ….MAKE A DIFFERENCE! He is risen, nothing to fear. …… This Easter Sunday I am humbled with the newness that the Risen Christ brings to our lives. Being reminded of how His death conquered all that drags us down and truly brings me back to the roots of our faith and our freedom. The daily routines, issues, challenges, and habits of our lives can easily distract and pull us away from the life changing truth that is ours on a daily basis. Eternal life is ours for the asking. All we gotta do is ask and believe… Check your experience… “…we had to stop doubting the power of God.” Big Book pg 52 Lord, Thank you that Christ is risen! Please help us today to walk in the power and grace of the risen Christ. Please let us always seek Your will and not be stifled by our own, Amen. “The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you're looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said …." Matthew 28:5-6 Have a blessed day y’all! Start your day on a positive note! Sunday / Resurrection Day is coming! … Even though we seem to see a lot of questioning, and political challenges to our Christian faith today, Jesus faced even more intense opposition and persecution during His time. The various leaders of the time were out to protect either their religious and or military power. They were determined to not let this popular renegade named Jesus become a symbol of challenge, start a cause, and bring cultural change. Thank goodness even their best efforts could not stop the power of God! Empires have tried to bury and destroy the gospel for centuries, but no one can keep Jesus’ body in the grave. His resurrection power lives on and is spreading across the earth! It’s apparent in the lives of all who believe and take Jesus as their personal Savior. All I can share with you is to compare your own life before and after you accepted Christ as your Savior. My life is blessed beyond my wildest dreams since I began walking with Jesus and following His Word many years ago. …..Please, check your own experience…. . “What seemed at first a flimsy reed, has proved to be the loving and powerful hand of God.” Big Book pg 28. Lord, thank You for Jesus and the promise of eternal life when we make Him our Lord and Savior, AMEN. “So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first. Take a guard, Pilate answered. Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” Matthew 27:64-65 Have a blessed day y’all! Check out my NEW WORKBOOK! So why is it called GOOD Friday and not Friday MOURNING?.. If today is the day that Jesus died on the cross, what is so good about that? Because of something so very bad happening on this day, we have all received something eternally and forever good. The tragedy and horror of Jesus’ death followed 2 days later with His resurrection resulted in the eternal and everlasting opportunity for anyone and everyone who turns to God, through Jesus Christ, to be forgiven from their sins and to receive eternal life. So the great part of today is that what happened long ago can give anyone who asks eternal life. Those of us who believe and receive this know from our experience of getting to know Jesus through His Word and because the Holy Spirit enters our life and shows us a whole new way to think and live…. Check your experience …. “To us, the Realm of Spirit is broad, roomy, all inclusive; never exclusive or forbidding to those who earnestly seek.” Big Book pg 46. Lord, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice for our sins to give us eternal life, AMEN. “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30 Have a blessed day y'all!! Check out my NEW WORKBOOK! Where does your mind wander? ... We are exposed daily to a multitude of sights, sounds, and even smells that are designed to grab our attention. It's ok and even healthy in most cases to have our minds momentarily stimulated by different sights and sounds but.... if we linger on that image or sound too long it can become a distraction. Repetitive distractions lead to changes in our behaviors, habits, and attitudes. Overtime if this continues our spiritual life can become challenged and even halted. Then the distraction becomes our addiction. .... Remember folks where your mind wanders your heart follows. ... Check your experience. ... “In the realm of the material, men's minds were fettered by superstition, tradition, and all sorts of fixed ideas.” Big Book pg 51 Lord help us through the power of Your Holy Spirit inside each of us to keep our hearts immune to permanent earthly distractions, AMEN. "Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse." When the going gets tough. ... There are times when we are faced with a difficult decision or situation, it seems to be a part of being human. Perhaps you are healthier mentally and spiritually than me, but my initial gut reaction is to feel alone, isolate, and let my self-generated fears turn the difficult moment into a bad choice. Over the years I have learned to expect this reaction in me and to not act on it. I turn to prayer and invite the Holy Spirit to guide my words, actions, and choices. When I do, I no longer feel alone, defeated, or fearful. Sure I still have to walk through the situation but I no longer let it control me and my attitudes. I remind myself that God has me covered with His Spiritual Armor and I walk through it. Is God helping you through those rough patches? ... Check your experience. ... “What seemed at first a flimsy reed, has proved to be the loving and powerful hand of God.” Big Book pg 28 Lord remind our hearts and quiet our minds in times of difficulty that You are with us no matter what, AMEN. "When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown!” Isaiah 43:2 Have a blessed day y’all! We remain free through serving others… This is an odd concept yet for those of us who have experienced serving someone or something out of the kindness of our hearts with no expectation of return get it. Think about it for a moment. Every day we naturally help, assist, or give a hand to someone or something instinctually. From parents caring for their children’s needs to yielding the right of way to another while we walk or drive, we are instinctually serving. It’s part of our nature. The Spiritual principle supporting this is the fact that through serving others, we are humbling ourselves to put another’s needs before our wants. The feeling you get is immeasurable when you do something for someone who can never pay you back. Helping others, does in fact, help ourselves…Check your experience… “Helping others is the foundation stone” Big Book pg 97 Lord, let us exercise and grow our freedom through helping others, AMEN. “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13 Have a blessed day y’all! "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's" .... It's tax day. I am sure it is a very busy day for my friend Karl Schwab and others who help us math deficient, procrastinating Americans to do our legal requirements by the deadline! This is a condition of being free and a citizen but in no way should we perceive our government as our Master. One quick look in the mirror of our lives will reveal what we choose to be our Master. Some of us through our habits choose the almighty dollar, others become slaves of sorts to material things, places, and or people. Folks it's only through Jesus that we can be truly free and gain eternal life though serving the only true Master. ... Check your experience. ... "Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God’s will into all of our activities. “How can I best serve Thee-Thy will (not mine) be done.” These are thoughts which must go with us constantly." Big Book pg 83. Lord let us respect our commitments to work and our country, but continue to train and remind our hearts that we only need to serve our one and only Master, AMEN. "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other." Matthew 6:24 Have a blessed day y'all! Leading by example. ... It seems to be an American cultural norm that we all have to "make it to the top" of whatever work or career path we are on. The media and marketing that we are exposed to on all fronts seems to equate success with clothes, cars, and other material trappings far above what most of us can honestly afford. “More is Better!” seems to be the subliminal message of success. The truth is that more is not better. While we need to support ourselves and our families, true success comes from becoming great stewards of what we are given and how we support and serve those around us. Jesus came to serve, not be served. He came to show us that there is eternal life through Him. Our faith in God grows when we learn the truth in His word and become in tune to those people, places, things, and situations He puts in our lives. ...Check your experience. ... "How can I best serve Thee? Thy will (not mine) be done." Big Book pg. 85 Lord, let us lead by serving and let us measure our success through our stewardship of the blessings you give us, AMEN. "But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted." Matthew 23: 11-12 Have a blessed day y’all! Choose your words. ... Words can either heal, help, or hurt, depending on how we choose to use them. One of the things we can't recall, rewind, or take back are the words that come flying from our mouths fueled by fear, anger, or other emotions of the moment. I have learned painfully over the years that it's best for me to not let the emotions of the moment inside of me fuel my words. I have found that when, instead of letting my emotions of the moment lead the charge of my “verbal vomit”, I quietly give the words to God and let the Holy Spirit guide my emotions and quiet my will, that I use better words for the situation. ... Check your experience. ... "Patience, tolerance, understanding and love are the watchwords." Big Book pg 118. Lord let the words we choose be fueled with love, kindness, and encouragement, AMEN. "The right word spoken at the right time is as beautiful as gold apples in a silver bowl." Proverbs 25:11 Have a blessed day y’all! Check out my NEW WORKBOOK! Eye checkup time… It’s not about using our eyes to see, rather it’s about what we CHOOSE to look at and truly see. Think about it for a moment. It’s human nature that we like to look at things that are pleasing to the eye. However, it’s when our head lies to us to make us think something is pleasing to the eye when it’s actually dangerous to our heart and soul that our struggle begins. It ain’t all about me. … There are times when my head tries to convince me of the illusion that it (whatever “it” is) is all about me. Generally I discover that I am a victim of this delusion when I become frustrated that things are not going exactly as I think they should be. Thank goodness I have the grace available to me through the Holy Spirit to check myself to discover that I am in self-will and it ain’t about me. When I accept this, I refocus my attitudes and look to see what I can bring to the situation instead of trying to see what I can get out of it. The amazing thing is that it then goes far better than I imagined in my selfish self-centered mind! …Check your experience. … “But be sure you are on solid spiritual ground before you start and that your motive in going is thoroughly good. Do not think of what you will get out of the occasion. Think of what you can bring to it.” Big Book pg 102 Lord, thank you for the grace that the Holy Spirit brings us to remind us that self-will can be deceptive and Your will can show us the truth, AMEN. "Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude." 1Peter 3:8 Have a blessed day y’all! Learning to rely….. We learn from an early age to rely on others. As children we rely on adults to keep us healthy, safe, and to help us grow. As adults we learn that self- reliance only takes us so far and we need to rely on people, places, and things to get through our daily journey. This is a good plan but we are only as good as what it is we rely upon. Think about it. People are human after all and prone to failures and mistakes. Places can change due to the people in them or economic circumstances. Things like electronics get outdated and even obsolete. So the question is what can we rely upon that never changes and always is in step with our lives? Maybe it’s different for you, but the answer for me and my house has been, is, and will forever be to rely on our relationship with God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit… Check your experience… “When we saw others solve their problems by a simple reliance upon the Spirit of the Universe, we had to stop doubting the power of God.” Big Book pg 52 Lord, let us learn to rely on You and trust Your presences and guidance in our lives, AMEN. “…we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God,” 2 Corinthians 1:9 Have a blessed day y’all! That Personal Trainer at the Spiritual Gym… It seems just about everyone has a physical fitness routine they try to follow. From gym memberships to hiking, biking, or running, most folks I know are doing something daily to keep their bodies healthy and in shape. The point is that physical fitness involving diet and exercise is now a part of our culture. Being physically healthy is something we need to own but what about our spiritual health? How are we building up our spiritual fitness? The good news is that just like our physical fitness routines, we can keep spiritually fit too. Daily time spent in the Word, prayer, as well as frequent contact with other believers can and does build up our spiritual fitness. What does your daily spiritual fitness routine include?.. Check your experience… “Assuming we are spiritually fit, we can do all sorts of things” Big Book pg 100 Lord, let us grow spiritually healthy through daily time spent in Your Word and in prayer, AMEN. “Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart.” 1Timothy 4:8-9 Have a blessed day y'all!! Is it a want or a request?.. Prayer changes things. ... We have all heard this and hopefully most of us will attest to its validity, prayer DOES change things. Does it give us the exact outcome or solution we want every time? Not exactly. ...BUT it changes us on the inside if we are willing. Think about it, if we pray with the willingness to accept God's plan as our desired answer instead of a specific outcome then things change. I have learned to pray to WANT what it GET instead of GET what I think I WANT… So instead of praying "God let me win the lottery”.... try praying for God to give you financial provisions and wisdom to be a good steward of the money that comes through your labor....Check your experience. ... "....praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out." Big Book pg 59 Lord let our hearts be willing to accept your answers when we come to you in prayer, AMEN "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds." It’s not about what you’ve got…it’s about what you do with it… Every one of us, whether we realize it or not, has special talents, unique gifts, and blessings. We were each designed for a purpose and it is human nature to have these unique natural abilities. Spiritually speaking, it’s not about having these gifts and keeping them for our own sole advantage, rather it’s about what we do with them to help others… Check your experience… “He often possesses special abilities, skills, and aptitudes,” Big Book pg 21 Lord, thank You for the unique gifts and talents you have given each of us. Please let us use these t less and help others, AMEN. “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10 Have a blessed day y’all! Hey friends please check out Servants Hearts! Exchanging the truth for a lie… Part of being human and having free will is dealing with the constant challenges we face daily for our attention and focus. There is all kinds and types of never-ending noise around us attempting to grab our attention and take us hostage emotionally. We are led to believe by many tricksters and false prophets that their product or service will fix us and make us complete. It never ends, or so it seems. ... The gift of free will us that we can consciously choose what we focus on and what we allow to grab our attention. The person, place, thing, or situation that we allow to dominate our mind will eventually invade our heart and drive our behaviors. It becomes our God. So the suggestion I want to make today is to take a long look in the mirror and ask ourselves, what or who is our God? ... Check your experience. ... "we had to fearlessly face the proposition that either God is everything or else He is nothing." Big Book pg 53 Lord let us open our hearts and minds daily to turn our will and lives over to You to be free of the worldly false Gods, AMEN. "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator." Romans 1:25 Have a blessed day y’all! Don't drink the Kool-Aid, just drink the water... We buy products based on our experience. I have learned the hard way that a pretty package can be misleading. It's what's inside that counts. We look for the quick fix and instant gratification because that is our cultural norm these days, but do we get the long term and permanent results? Perhaps it’s different for you, but I have only found that through seeking spiritual growth daily and working on me and my attitudes and habits… Check your experience… "Our ideas did not work. But the God idea did." Big Book pg 52 Lord, thank You for quenching the thirst in our souls through Your Word and Spirit, AMEN. "Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst — not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.” John 4: 14 Have a blessed day y’all! Hey friends please check out Servants Hearts!
