It’s great to be independent and it’s our nature to be self-sufficient and self-supporting. 

Yet, we still need to get our guidance and direction from somewhere in order to continue to be successful. 

Think about it. 

In most areas of our lives, we are given parameters, instructions, boundaries, and or guidelines. 

We then learn by doing as well as being shown. Finally, experience gives us the confidence and comfort we need in knowing that we are able to succeed. 

The Lord molds us and shapes us when we are willing into who and what He needs us to be.

ASK… SEEK… KNOCK… 

These are powerful words requiring individual efforts and actions that lead to amazing and blessed results. 

I get caught up in my own head at times and begin to think that folks are SUPPOSED TO KNOW what I want or need. 

Now, maybe it’s different for you, but when this doesn’t happen, I then begin to get resentful and wonder why they are ignoring me. 

It’s the same with our relationship with Christ. 

Even though God knows our thoughts even before we form them, He still needs us to participate with our will, words, and actions in order to give us what we need or get us to where we need to be. 

How’s that working out for you? 

Are you asking, seeking, and providing the effort and actions to make your needs known to God? …

How’s your footing?..

Sometimes we find ourselves on rocky, cluttered, or unstable paths as we try to walk. 

When we encounter these challenges, we usually become a bit more wary of each step and sometimes consider changing our path. 

We don’t necessarily need to change the goal or the destination, but perhaps change the way we are trying to get there.  

We can and will encounter some unstable paths in our Spiritual walk as well. 

It’s in those times we can look to the Holy Spirit to guide us and set us on a clear and more stable path instead of trying to seek an easier, softer way on our own.  

How do you find firm footing spiritually?..

If nothing changes then nothing changes…

None of us are perfect. 

We each have things that need our attention and cannot be fixed without our participation and ownership. 

We need to own our challenges, struggles, and shortcomings. 

The good news is that God can and will help us if we stay willing and provide the effort! When He can see our efforts fueled by our motivation to change, then He can heal us! 

Ask yourself if you are participating in your own improvement and as always…

Foreign “gods” of today… 

What do you worship? 

Believe it or not, but some folks blindly serve another god in the form of money, work, or a material possession. 

Heck, some of us might even worship another human; like a movie star, athlete, or even obsess on a personal relationship. 

Now don't get me wrong, it's great to have nice things and healthy personal relationships, but are we allowing people, places, things, and or situations to become our “gods”? 

Do we spend a large amount of time focusing our thoughts, energies, and efforts attempting to please or serve them? 

I am a firm believer of the spiritual principle that your heart exists where your thoughts reside...

If you are going through hell…keep on going… 

Back in Sacramento, years ago, ol’ Dick E. used to say in the AA meetings, 

“Don’t turn a bad moment into a bad day.” 

I have held onto that thought over the years and found that when I am in times of stress or struggle, that this thought gets me through it. 

While some situations last longer than a moment, I have learned that I am not facing it alone and that when I turn my troubles and fears over to the Lord, not only does my day go better, but also, the situation usually resolves itself and leaves me in a better place as a result. 

Are you allowing bad moments to become bad days?..

Power Aid… 

Power is the thing that we all crave and seek in one from another. 

The problem is our minds get twisted by the illusions of the material world and lead us to seek the wrong type of power. 

We have our will power that is part of our human make up. It will never go away, but we can learn to harness our will power and align it with a Power greater than ourselves. 

Hopefully, we have learned that the best Power to align our will with is the power of God, and not some worldly based perceived power in another person, place or thing?

It’s an inside job...

People who are living with grace, joy, and peace have that happy glow about them. 

What I have learned is that they get this glow from the happiness that exists inside of them. It’s not from winning the lottery, or being a millionaire, or even having those material things that we feel at times we just have to have. Yes, those things bring a different kind of happiness. 

This inside happiness I and sharing about centers around knowing that, no matter what, they are covered, protected, and blessed by God. His Holy Spirit lives in each of us and that is how He can bless us abundantly. 

Our part is to merely seek and do His will daily. 

In living our faith in a way that others can see, we are allowing God to work through us to help others.

Using the correct power source...

Human beings are amazing creatures. 

When we want something we usually and naturally use our own power to provide the correct effort to gain it. On occasion when that fails, we apply more of our own power through effort and self-will to make it happen. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not happen. 

Over the years I have learned by experience that the problem is not our lack of power. 

The problem is our lack of using the right Power source to make sure we are seeking the correct thing for us. 

Just because it’s new and shiny does not necessarily mean we have to have it right now. Just because the guy on TV tells us we need it to make our lives better does not mean that it’s the truth. 

Tap into the power of God and watch a new world of possibility, abundance, and grace open up for you!...

Work is one of them 4 letter words…

Work seems to be a heavy word. 

There are things in life we must do that we don’t necessarily enjoy that require work. From simple things like laundry to complex things like car maintenance. (well… it’s very complex for me!) The work required may not be enjoyable, but we know it’s needed. 

On the other hand, each of us possess talents and skills that we enjoy and because of our passions for them, it doesn’t feel like work. 

What is your passion or talent that you gain enjoyment and satisfaction from doing? 

These are just a part of the many gifts God has given us...

Got faith?..

Except for electricians and engineers, can we absolutely and completely explain why the light comes on when we touch the switch? 

We have faith from our experience that it will. 

Same thing with starting our computers and cars, we can't entirely explain it, but we have faith from our experience that it will work. 

Now what about God? 

I can't speak for you but through my life experiences and His grace and Word, I know my faith is based on a real and loving God.

One stop shopping…

We stop at many places for many things most days. 

We go to the coffee shop for our coffee, the juice place for our smoothies, the cleaners for our clothes, the healthy market for our specialty foods, and the grocery store for the rest! 

We travel many places to get many things to help us in our daily lives! 

What about our spiritual lives? 

It is comforting to know that all we need is contained in one Book and we can usually get spiritually fed through studying and learning The Book with other believers.

Guard your words and walk your talk… 

Perhaps it’s different for you and I hope it is, but I spent many years reacting on emotions and allowing words fueled by fear, insecurity, and pride escape from my mouth before sensibility, reason, and wisdom had a chance to respond. 

My failure to control my words led to all sorts of situations where I had to amend, apologize, and suffer the consequences. 

When I finally learned to respond rather than react, I found not only less stress and chaos in my life, but also learned that this is where the Holy Spirt in us can speak into our hearts and show us not only the words we should use, but also the actions we need to back these words. 

 Are you reacting or responding?..

Our behavior will convince them more than our words.” Big Book pg 83 

Lord, thank you for the reminder that while small, our tongue is mighty and we must watch our words, AMEN. 

“Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.” James 3: 2-5

So where does fear come from?.. 

Fear is one of those 4 letter words that cause discomfort and pain. It’s interesting to me to see the power this word has over our lives. 

Now perhaps it’s different for you, but my experience has shown me that when this 4-letter word enters into my thoughts, if left unchecked and unchallenged, it can cause all sorts of troubles for me and those around me. 

Over the years I have learned that the best way for me to deal with fear is to track it to its source. 

More often than not, that source is me and my attitudes, perceptions, and insecurities. 

When I am able to see that the fear is not real but based on my own making, then I am able to give the fear to God in exchange for His grace, guidance, and love. 

How are you handling your fears?..

Lord, let us give you our fears in exchange for your guidance, grace, and love, AMEN.
