Why worry?.. Schedules conflict, appointments run long, and our responsibilities never seems to end! Now maybe it’s different for you but when I find myself, as I often do, mentally leaving the present situation because my mind wants me to start focusing on where it thinks I should be according to the “plan”, … I have to remind myself that this is where I need to be and now is where my focus needs to be. Wringing my hands, pacing, checking my watch, calendar, or phone, won’t move the time any faster. I have learned that the root cause of all of this for me is my fear-based mind’s desire to worry. The solution I must force myself at times to grab and hold onto is that God has me right here right now for His own reasons and … I need to be awake and present in this moment and not lost in thoughts and worry over my day not matching up with my calendar. Faith or fear?.. It's the age-old problem that we face every day. It comes seemingly from out of nowhere, but if not confronted immediately, our day can get hijacked with our thoughts taken hostage and our minds blinded by it. What is it? FEAR.. OK, so maybe you are one of those invincible folks already so full of faith that fear has no way to get a grip inside of you. I wish I could say that, but I am human and without putting myself in check with faith each time a fear tries to crop up, I am a victim. Try this the next time you find yourself stepping on the gas out of fear of missing the light, or when your mind fills with words you feel you must immediately say, instead of listening to the conversation completely before it's your turn to speak.. Whatcha wearin' on the inside?.. I used to share this thought as part of a class lesson when I was on staff at the Salvation Army ARC in Sacramento… You can wax, wash, shine, polish, and accessorize your car to its finest, but if you don't change the oil, keep the engine serviced, and keep quality fuel in the tank, you won't go anywhere and wind up with a fine-looking piece of junk. The point is that if you don't maintain your engine (Spiritual Condition) and inside mechanical parts (mental and emotional) that others cannot see, you will have junk, no matter how pretty or cool you look on the outside. Drop the rocks. ... Did you ever notice that in times of stress, fear, or extended worry your back usually aches and your shoulders and neck are stiff and tight? Sheesh! What's up with that? You are probably familiar with the term 'carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders'; and that is exactly what we are trying to do during these painful times! We can't change people, places, things, or situations. So why do we load our hearts and minds with the weight of things we cannot change? When we block our hearts off from the Holy Spirit, our minds become prisoners of our self-induced thoughts our body takes on the weight of this unnatural stress causing pain in our back, shoulders, and neck. ... Looking for the good in all situations… Perhaps it's different for you, but I have this magic magnifying glass in my mind that automatically tries to find the negative in everything and make it bigger than it is. Over the years I have learned to recognize this and turn it off before it gets a chance to twist my thinking. I now look for the good in everything and everyone, even when I am facing challenges and bad news. I am FREE to do this because I am God's kid, and His Spirit resides in me. I know that no matter what, I will survive the situation and either learn or benefit in some way from it... Check your experience... No pain...no gain.... Maybe it's different for you, but I can honestly say that I do not enjoy pain of any kind in any form. I don't intentionally go looking for it but I have learned that when I do find myself in pain, there is either a lesson to be learned or an experience to grow from if I look with a willing heart and open mind. Staying spiritually fit is hard work but the benefits are immense. Sobriety and sugar and bad carb abstinence is not easy but the pains from gaining and maintaining it have brought me blessings far beyond what I deserve. The same can be said for my journey to attain physical health and fitness. God gives us the pain inside of every challenge to encourage us to find the benefit He has for us. Check your experience... Hearing check… Our hearing comes in all forms. Did you know that along with the ears attached to our head we also have other ears? We have mental ears that allow our human instincts to silently hear the world around us. We also have spiritual ears that allow our hearts to hear the Holy Spirit. While we use the ears attached to our heads to hear the normal everyday stuff life brings along with our “selective hearing” of only what we want to hear, our instinctual ears hear that faucet dripping before we realize it. Regaining our sight... 

Have you ever noticed how our attitudes, behaviors, and even our sight can be influenced by pride, anger, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, and or sloth? (PAGLEGS) 

These are influenced by our self-driven fears and change how we see things from how things actually are. 

Vision influenced by emotions is not clear vision. 

This poor vision leads us to all sorts of bad choices, actions, and decisions. 

Check your "vision" next time you are being led by emotions into hasty actions. 

Turn your will over to God and watch your vision (and emotions) be restored...

Lord open the eyes of our hearts so that we can see past the emotions of the moment, AMEN.

Looking for the good…

It just comes naturally. 

We are prone to look for the wrong, talk about the negative, and point out the faults in others. 

Our culture and society has trained us to think, act, and react this way. 

As a result, we seem to only see and hear about these things. 

Ever seen a newscast devoted to showing the good things folks are doing? 

We become what we are exposed to and our environment can conflict with our spiritual walk...

IF WE LET IT… 

I propose that we should shift our thinking to look for the good, talk about what is positive, and catch people doing things right! 

Try this for a day and see how much better you feel!..

Lord let us look for the good and lift others up instead of constantly bringing them down, AMEN.

The power of choice… 

We face many choices daily but for me, the most important and constant choice I face is to either seek God’s will or follow my own self-will. 

Maybe some folks think like I used to think when I was first saved that I no longer had to battle with life’s twists, turns, trials, tests, and temptations, because I had Jesus in my heart. 

However, the fact is that God loves us so much that even though through Baptism He fills our heart with His Holy Spirit, He loves us so much and so unconditionally that He allows us to keep our free will. 

Now perhaps it’s different for you, but this is exactly why I must make the choice daily and even hourly at times to seek His will and not give into my selfish self-centered will. 

How do you handle this choice?...

Lord, thank You for loving us so complete and unconditionally that you let us keep our free will. Let us exercise this power of choice and choose to seek Your will in all things, AMEN. 

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Deuteronomy 30:19-20

This Easter Sunday I am humbled with the newness that the Risen Christ brings to our lives.

Being reminded of how His death conquered all that drags us down and truly brings me back to the roots of our faith and our freedom.

The daily routines, issues, challenges, and habits of our lives can easily distract and pull us away from the life changing truth that is ours on a daily basis.

Eternal life is ours for the asking.

All we gotta do is ask and believe…

Sunday / Resurrection Day is coming!..

Even though we seem to see a lot of questioning, and political challenges to our Christian faith today...

Jesus faced even more intense opposition and persecution during His time. 

The various leaders of the time were out to protect either their religious and or military power. 

They were determined to not let this popular renegade named Jesus become a symbol of challenge, start a cause, and bring cultural change. 

Thank goodness even their best efforts could not stop the power of God! 

Empires have tried to bury and destroy the gospel for centuries, but no one can keep Jesus’ body in the grave. 

His resurrection power lives on and is spreading across the earth! 

It’s apparent in the lives of all who believe and take Jesus as their personal Savior. 

All I can share with you is to compare your own life before and after you accepted Christ as your Savior. 

My life is blessed beyond my wildest dreams since I began walking with Jesus and following His Word many years ago...

So why is it called GOOD Friday and not Friday MOURNING?.. 

If today is the day that Jesus died on the cross, what is so good about that? 

Because of something so very bad happening on this day, we have all received something eternally and forever good. 

The tragedy and horror of Jesus’ death followed 2 days later with His resurrection resulted in the eternal and everlasting opportunity for anyone and everyone who turns to God, through Jesus Christ, to be forgiven from their sins and to receive eternal life. 

So the great part of today is that what happened long ago can give anyone who asks eternal life. 

Those of us who believe and receive this know from our experience of getting to know Jesus through His Word and because the Holy Spirit enters our life and shows us a whole new way to think and live….

Lord, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice for our sins to give us eternal life, AMEN.

"Render to Caesar what is Caesar's"... 

It's Tax Day tomorrow. 

I am sure it is a very busy day for my friend Karl Schwab and others who help us math deficient, procrastinating Americans to do our legal requirements by the deadline! 

This is a condition of being free and a citizen but in no way should we perceive our government as our Master. 

One quick look in the mirror of our lives will reveal what we choose to be our Master. 

Some of us through our habits choose the almighty dollar, others become slaves of sorts to material things, places, and or people. 

Folks it's only through Jesus that we can be truly free and gain eternal life though serving the only true Master...

Check your experience...  

"Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God’s will into all of our activities. How can I best serve Thee-Thy will (not mine) be done.” These are thoughts which must go with us constantly." Big Book pg. 83 

Lord let us respect our commitments to work and our country but continue to train and remind our hearts that we only need to serve our one and only Master, AMEN. 

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other." Matthew 6:24

Leading by example... 

It seems to be an American cultural norm that we all must "make it to the top" of whatever work or career path we are on. 

The media and marketing that we are exposed to on all fronts seems to equate success with clothes, cars, and other material trappings far above what most of us can honestly afford. 

“More is Better!” seems to be the subliminal message of success. 

The truth is that...

MORE IS NOT BETTER!. 

While we need to support ourselves and our families, true success comes from becoming great stewards of what we are given and how we support and serve those around us. 

Jesus came to serve, not be served. 

He came to show us that there is eternal life through Him. 

Our faith in God grows when we learn the truth in His word and become in tune to those people, places, things, and situations He puts in our lives...

"How can I best serve Thee? Thy will (not mine) be done." Big Book pg. 85 

Lord, let us lead by serving and let us measure our success through our stewardship of the blessings you give us, AMEN. 

"But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted." Matthew 23: 11-12

Eye checkup time… 

It’s not about using our eyes to see, rather it’s about what we CHOOSE to look at and truly see. 

Think about it for a moment. 

It’s human nature that we like to look at things that are pleasing to the eye. 

However, it’s when our head lies to us to make us think something is pleasing to the eye when it’s dangerous to our heart and soul that our struggle begins. 

For instance, when I see all the desserts and sugary things my eye loves to gaze upon, my heart and soul suffer, and my body used to be the living example of this suffering. 

Y’all can come up with your own examples!

Lord let us use the eyes of our heart to help us see the things we need to see and not the illusions that can cause us harm, AMEN.

What book are you reading from?!?

In today’s world we can get books in many forms. 

From the standard printed book form to kindle, books are available to us in whatever media we choose. 

On top of that, we have books available on every subject and just about every situation that will tell us many different ways to try to accomplish the thing we are working toward or trying to learn. 

Now maybe it’s different for you, but for me, my experience has taught me and continues to teach me that the Bible is the best source for learning how to live and handle the daily challenges we all face.
